Carr Impala Amp, Slub, Black
- DESCRIPTION
The Carr Impala Amp is one of those great amps that offers up a multitude of usable tones while keeping everything very straightforward and simple.
The Impala is loosely based on the venerable Blackface Bassman circuit, but with all the expected Carr twists and improvements. It starts off with a great early 60's american clean tone at lower volumes. Not super clean and somewhat sterile like a Twin, but rather thick and warm like a true Bassman of the day. Turning the volume up little by little introduces a thick and aggressive overdrive reminiscent of early Marshall amps. After all, they were based on the Bassman circuits, but you probably knew that already. :)
The Impala's Master works quite well in conjunction the Volume, and together they allow you tremendous amount of control of the thickness and overall volume levels. Even with the 44 Watt power rating, it's still easy to get nice, saturated overdriven tones at lower volumes.
The amp's simple controls make it quick to dial in the tone to your taste, and Carr's popular reverb circuit lets you dial in the proper amount of classic splash to liven up your sound. The Impala uses an audio taper pot for reverb. The effect is very subtle till you hit 12 o'clock on the dial allowing great control over the amount of reverb.
Are you a pedal player? No problem! The Impala plays very nicely with pedals. Even with higher gain overdrive pedals it will never cause your chords to lose their definition.
The Carr Impala is a fantastically versatile, yet simple amp that has a little something to offer nearly any player.
