The Victoria Victorilux is an original amp design that sits perfectly between tweed and blackface!

Using the Fender AB763 Blackface circuit, this amp was designed to be a clean amp.  That's for sure.  However, many feel that Fender blackface era amps can come across somewhat stiffer than the tweed era amps.  While it's absolutely subjective, we can certainly see where they're coming from.  Enter the Victorilux!

As we mentioned earlier, the Victorilux amplifier was designed to ride the line between Fender tweed and blackface circuits.  Easy to say, but what exactly does this mean, right?  Well, for starters, you have to understand how important the cabinet designs were back in the day.  In the 50's, Fender used thinner (5/16ths) floating baffles in their cabinets.  This allowed the cab to become part of the tone of the amplifier.  The vibrational energy from the speakers would vibrate the baffle and create a thicker, fuller tone.  Amps using this design didn't come with reverb because, well, they just didn't need it.  The resonance was there and it sounded fine.

In the 60's, Fender became more interested in designing amps to be as efficient as possible.  Clean and stark!  To do this, they started using thick (3/4") fixed baffle designed cabs as opposed to the thinner, floating baffles used before.  These fixed baffles were good at focusing more volume forward as they didn't vibrate as much and allowed the speaker to do all the work, so to speak.  While the volume was achieved, Fender noticed the tone was much stiffer, and perhaps a bit sterile.  Enter the reverb circuit!  This filled out the tone of the amp causing it to sound a bit more like the cabs of the 50's.

So, now that the history lesson is over (you probably knew most of that anyway) we can get back to the Victorilux.  The Victoria Victorilux essentially utilizes a blackface amp in a tweed cabinet.  The result is a noticeable departure from typical blackface designed replicas, making the Victorilux a true hybrid containing the best of both worlds.  (Sorry for the obvious cliché, folks.  It just fits!)
