The Swart Atomic Jr is one of the newer creations from Michael Swart that builds on the ever popular Space Tone 6V6se line. Essentially, it's the 6V6se with reverb. But don't think for a second we are going to stop there with the description. The quality of this reverb mandates we speak a bit more of it. Swart didn't just copy some popular reverb circuit from another amp, he worked on this reverb for over a year. It's a triode based reverb stage utilizing a 12DW7 fed into a spring tank for astoundingly HUGE REVERB. While the tone of this little beast (and by little, we mean only 14 lbs) is quite serious, we find it at times humorous to play because of the amount of thick, lush, reverb that comes from this tiny box. It actually makes us chuckle (or LOL for you younger crowd). From the small stature it would be easy to assume a boxy tone with similar reverb, but take our word for it. You'd be wrong. One notable difference is a cool switchable gain option in place of the 6V6se feedback switch. When in circuit, the amp has more clean headroom and takes a bit longer to break-up. It's a slightly more controlled result. Flip it out of circuit and you have slightly less compression with a more raw take, quicker to get into the fun stuff.
Like all Swart Amps, the Atomic Jr. is all hand-wired, point to point, and cathode biased with no internal adjustments necessary when changing tubes out.
The Space Tone Atomic Jr. uses a 12AX7 and a 12DW7 (for the reverb) into a 6V6, or optionally a 6L6 family power tube. Swart also uses a single tone knob for less complexity, which simplifies the circuit and allows for a more pure tone. You know how it is... The more knobs, the more "things" for your tone to go in and out of, losing a touch of something each time. A perfect argument in the tube amp world for less is more!
Another important note is the ability to swap out rectifier tubes to increase the sag, compression, breakup, etc. The stock rectifier tube is a JJ 5AR4/GZ34, but you can also put a 5Y3 in it's place to do just that.
The stock speaker is a Weber Signature 8 Ceramic.
